£19/mo · included from SoloHealth & safety software for UK construction sites
A principal contractor asks for four things in the first week: your RAMS, your site inductions, your toolbox talks and your near-miss log. This module holds all four, plus permits to work, and it can stop somebody clocking on until they’ve got them. RAMS are versioned, and an operative signs one specific version. So when somebody asks who accepted v2, you answer in a few seconds instead of piecing it together out of emails. Included from Solo up.

What the Health & Safety module does
- Versions every RAMS document: versions are separate records sharing a group, with an explicit supersedes link and a status of draft, issued, superseded or archived.
- Ties each operative’s acceptance to the exact version they put their name to, with the signature, the method, the time and the IP address.
- Takes sign-off by QR scan, in the app, or on paper. A subbie with no login doesn’t become a gap in the record.
- Site inductions carry a valid-until date, so they run out instead of lasting forever.
- Logs toolbox talks with topic, presenter, date, duration and a signed attendance list.
- Logs safety observations in four types (near miss, unsafe act, unsafe condition, good practice) with both actual and potential severity on a five-point scale.
- Runs observations through open, in progress and closed with an immediate action, corrective action and root cause.
- Issues permits to work in six types including hot work, confined space and working at height, with valid-from and valid-to times.
- Three site-gate modes: off, warn, block. A two-man outfit doesn’t get locked out of its own site, and a principal contractor can enforce from day one.
Health & Safety: how it works
How does Estimark version a RAMS document?
Every version is its own record. It shares a group identifier with the other versions and points at the one it supersedes. An operative signs a row rather than a document, so the system can name the exact revision each person accepted and the time they did it. That’s the question somebody asks after an incident, and it’s a bad week to be guessing.
- Fields cover scope of works, hazards, control measures, method statement, PPE required and emergency arrangements.
- A review date sits on the document, and the status runs draft, issued, superseded, archived.
- A sign-off carries the person’s name, company and role, so you can identify a subbie’s operative who never had an account.
Can Estimark stop someone clocking on without an induction?
Yes, if you want it to. The gate has three modes. Off logs the failure and lets them on. Warn puts it on screen at clock-on. Block turns them away. Everything defaults to off, because a small builder shut out of his own site by his own software just stops using the software.
NoteThe gate checks induction validity, qualification records and RAMS acceptance at the moment of a QR clock-on. Attendance and the gate itself live in the Training & Qualifications module.
What is a near miss and why record potential severity?
Something that could have hurt somebody and didn’t. Estimark records what actually happened and, separately, how bad it could have been: negligible, minor, moderate, major, fatal. The second one is the number that tells you anything. A scaffold board dropping into an empty exclusion zone did no harm at all, and it’s a fatal-potential near miss. Grade it on outcome and you’ve filed away the only warning you were going to get.

Questions
Health & Safety: frequently asked
Which Estimark plan includes health & safety?
It’s included from Solo up. RAMS, inductions, toolbox talks, near misses and permits to work all come in that.
Does Estimark write my RAMS for me?
No. It gives the RAMS its structure (scope, hazards, control measures, method statement, PPE, emergency arrangements) and handles versioning, issue and sign-off by each operative. The competent person writing the thing is still you.
Can subcontractors sign a RAMS without an Estimark login?
Yes. Sign-off takes the person’s name, company and role, by QR scan, in the app or on paper. An operative from a subbie with no account still ends up as a named signature against one specific version.
Does Estimark cover permits to work?
Yes. Six types: hot work, confined space, electrical, working at height, excavation, and other. Each carries a permit number, a risk level, the precautions and PPE, a location, valid-from and valid-to times, and a status of draft, active, suspended, closed or cancelled.
